Today, Saturday May 23rd would have been the Arcata Arts Institute’s 14th annual Flow. Every year our community gathers at the Arcata Theatre Lounge to celebrate our young fashion designers. It is a highlight of the year for many in our program including myself. Although our school campus shut down mid-March, some of our fashion design students persevered and kept sewing on their own. I would like to celebrate these determined, creative students by presenting you with a collection of photos of “would-be” Flow designs.
Thank you to our fashion design teachers, Annie Leidstrand and Solomon Lowenstein. Although they were not able to help this year as much as they usually do, they none the less have supported these students in past years and continued to this year in any way they could.
The three students that are highlighted here today are all seniors, so likely will not have another chance to be part of Flow in the future. But I have no doubt they will find other ways to shine as they continue their creative endeavors. I look forward to next year when we can resume celebrating our inspirational students together, in person. For now, congratulations to Simone Haggerty, Tia Franklin, and Elizabeth Heinrick!
With love and gratitude,
Johanna Mauro • Director of AAI
