Master Class with Access Humboldt wins recognition
In Spring of 2016, Access Humboldt partnered with Arcata Arts Institute (AAI) to offer a Master Class in Video Production. The Class focused on projects for the “Student Voices” campaign http://studentvoicescampaign.org/, which empowers them to make their voices heard in their local school district. Students had an opportunity take part in a video advocacy campaign that offers them a real-world opportunity to author content, communicate creatively and practice civic engagement.
Two projects produced by AAI students received statewide recognition at the Student Voices Summit, “Creative Oasis” and “Revelation.”
Anne Bown-Crawford, Director of Arcata Arts Institute said, “At AAI we believe that every voice counts. Our student voice is especially impactful in the video format. Through this project our voices are amplified and put in the spotlight State-wide!”
Access Humboldt’s executive director Sean McLaughlin noted: “AAI is a strong program building the creative community for our future. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the amazing team at AAI and their wonderful students to engage local voices.”
Launched by the California Alliance for Arts Education, the Student Voices campaign invited students in grades 7-12 to create videos that share their vision for better schools and their education. These student produced videos were also shared with school district leaders as part of the annual Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) planning process.
Hundreds of students representing 7 California counties participated with 20 finalists selected and top submissions were announced at the Student Voices Summit & Screening, held at the San Francisco Art Institute on April 30, 2016.
Two student videos from AAI, “Creative Oasis” and “Revelation” were among those recognized! http://studentvoicescampaign.org/post/142753420925
These student video projects along with highlights of other AAI programs are compiled in the “Arcata Arts Institute Video Showcase – Spring 2016,” airing on Access Humboldt and available on the Community Media Archive here: https://archive.org/details/arcata_arts_institute_video_showcase_spring_…
